Landscaping and the Heat of the Summer.

14 July, 09:38, by Joanna

The fourth of July weekend was enjoyed by all; here in New England we had three perfect days. The weather was great and family and friends all gathered to enjoy their company.

At Oxbow Gardens Landscaping we had guys out mowing Commercial lawns all weekend. The rain and cool nights had the grass growing quickly. The momentum was fast and we kept every lawn looking good. The rain has tapered and the intensity of the sun is increasing; therefor the lawn’s growth have slowed. Our guys are now enjoying weekends off, of course, weekend hours are always optional.

This time of year Oxbow Gardens Landscaping performs job installations and projects. This past week we installed a 30 foot stone wall and created a beautiful garden. Most of the plantings were saved from another job. We create a holding area for transplanted stock. The most wonderful, mature plantings are kept fresh while waiting for a new location. We hold massive Rhododendron’s to smaller bushes and Hosta’s and Flox. It is satisfying to see these plants thrive in their new environment!

July is the time to prune the bushes and trim the trees. Call to have your property added to our pruning list!

Oxbow Gardens Landscaping has been meeting with customers. This is a perfect time of year to make an appointment to review your landscape plan, get quotes on projects and schedule the work. We love to fill our September and October schedules in July! Pass the word and have all your friends call for a free estimate. (we are now filling our mid to late summer schedule)

Thank you for reading my blog. I would like to ask that you enjoy and appreciate the company of the people in your life and remember to stop and appreciate the beauty in the wild environment as well as the manicured landscaped property!

Rain or an Irrigation system for the landscaped yard

02 June, 14:14, by Joanna Tags: , ,

June has begun with the largest storm in Massachusetts that I have seen. Our thoughts are with the folks in western Mass who are picking up the pieces.

In Bedford and surrounding towns we witnessed prolonged lightning activity and rain. A few hail stones were knocking at my windows at times. It was an intense evening to say the least! We love to see the rain at this time of year. I had noticed an area in my lawn that had started to show summer stress. Last nights downpours and the promise of week long cooler temperatures should promote lush green lawns for many weeks; that is for those of us who choose not install an irrigation system. An Irrigation system installed on your property will keep your plants and grass growing all summer.

If you are interested in installing an irrigation system, this is a great time to contact Oxbow Gardens Landscaping to do the job.

Please enjoy your days.

Oxbow Gardens is cutting grass all over town! It seems that we can’t get back fast enough, this time of year 7 days between cuts allows the grass to get quite long! The rain last week was great for greening up and growing grass.
The mower blades have been sharpened. This makes the fresh cut lawn more attractive in the landscape and decreases gas consumption.
I am very concerned about the trees. The winter moth larvae have exfoliated so many! Where is our privacy? Usually at this time of year, the five abutters to my property are hidden behind a blanket of green leaves. This is a problem throughout Bedford and surrounding towns.
I haven’t seen the bats around this year. I heard something about fungus or disease, but I need to do more research on the subject. Having bats is the best insect control and I enjoy watching their dances around the yard at dusk. I am installing a new bat house and hoping for their return.
I have planted our vegetable garden. I still have room for more plants and stepping stones.
If you have a landscape project, please call Oxbow gardens Landscaping for a free consultation and estimate.
bye for now,
Joanna
